How it works
Adoption through FANA, in Bogotá Colombia involves three critical relationships!
One with FANA, one with a US Adoption Agency certified to work with adoptions in Colombia and a relationship with Friends of FANA, MN! The first two agencies do all the legal paperwork and processes, the relationship with the Friends of FANA, MN group is for creating the link to FANA, and for support, advice and camaraderie on the journey, from start to finish – which for most turns out to be a lifelong association!
The international adoption process is long, expensive, and arduous. It includes spending several weeks in Colombia and obtaining, along the way, a list of documents longer than you have ever collected in your past! Travelling this path with the advice, support, and camaraderie that Friends of FANA, MN can provide is invaluable. Overall, adopting from FANA is one the most rewarding experiences you will have, and it will change the life of a child/children in positive and dramatic ways you can sometimes not even imagine!
Adoption from FANA
Established in 1972, FANA, a private orphanage located in Bogotá, Colombia has found forever homes for over 14,000 children around the world
We are currently seeking families to adopt children with diverse needs, ranging from:
• Toddlers (up to 59 months);
• Sibling Groups; or
• Older Children (up to age ages 5 to 16).
Friends of FANA, MN is organized in the state of Minnesota in the United States and is authorized by FANA in Bogotá to provide adoption support services and for families in the Midwest US region.
Get started
Interested families must:
• Contact Friends of FANA, MN
• Complete an agency home study and training protocol that meets the international requirements prior to the adoption of the children.
• Complete all the necessary paperwork related to adoption through an a local agency licensed to process Colombia adoptions in Colombia.
• These two steps can be completed with one local agency if that agency is licensed and approved to be able to process Colombian adoptions.
